Simon Maddrell
Simon Maddrell is a poet, editor, educator and wellbeing facilitator. He was born on the Isle of Man and now lives in Brighton & Hove.
Since 2019, over 200 of Simon's poems have appeared in 26 anthologies and 80 publications, including & Change, AMBIT, Acumen, Gutter, Magma, MODRON, Poetry Wales, SAND, Southword, Stand, The Gay & Lesbian Review, The London Magazine, The Moth, The Rialto, Under the Radar.
In 2020, Simon’s debut chapbook, Throatbone, was published by UnCollected Press, and Queerfella jointly-won The Rialto Open Pamphlet Competition. Isle of Sin (Polari Press, 2023); The Whole Island (Valley Press, 2023); a finger in derek jarman's mouth (Polari Press, 2024) were all Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Selections. Patient L1 (Polari Press) and Jo & Ni Go Cruising (Septum Press) were published in 2025.
Out-Spoken Press will publish Simon's debut collection, lamping wild rabbits, in Feb 2026.
Simon has a background in development and conservation in Africa's drylands. He founded Sand Dams Worldwide in 2002 and is a world authority on sand dam technology.
Simon is a queer gay man who lives with HIV, ADHD & autism
