Take part in our Punaiset Kengät installation by joining our workshop: bring your own old shoes and give them a new purpose! For the second year in a row, we're replicating in Helsinki the "Zapatos Rojos" installation, a project by the Mexican artist #ElinaChauvet. The installation had its origin in denouncing violence against women and femicide in response to the wave of femicides (hate crime, understood as the murder of a woman for the fact of being a woman) in Ciudad Juárez in the 1990s, and over time it has become a symbol of reflection on the violence experienced by women around the world.
We are hosting two separate workshops: the first workshop from 15:30-17, and the second from17:30-19.
The red shoes collected will be used to recreate Elina Chauvet's red shoe installation on May 25th and 26th at Suvilahti as part of Maailma Kylässä -festival. The workshop is organized by PlusCollective ry and Maailman Kuvalehti with the participation of other feminist groups.
