Spirit of Paimio returns in October 2025 to explore the tension between two apparently irreconcilable forces - the desire to preserve and the need to renew.

Nearly a century after its founding as a radical experiment in healing architecture, Paimio Sanatorium looks towards a new chapter of its history: no longer a hospital, it is once again seeking relevance as a site of rest, reflection, and regeneration.

Echoes of the Future considers how the Aaltos’ humane design ethos—attuned to nature, light, and care—might inform new responses to the challenges of today, at Paimio and beyond.

Bringing together architects, designers, thinkers and innovators, the conference asks how spatial practice can serve as a bridge between past and future, reconnecting disciplines and reimagining well-being in a time of profound collective transformation.

Speakers

This year’s conference speakers will be announced in late August.

Program

The conference will take place over one day and will include keynote talks from leading figures in architecture, design, and science, along with panel discussions. The full program will be published later.

Bus Transportation

Bus transportation between Helsinki and Paimio will be available for booking in late August. Everyone who has purchased a ticket will be notified once the transport booking opens.

Accommodation

Paimio Sanatorium has limited on-site accommodation.We recommend staying in Turku (less than 30 minutes away) or in Helsinki (about 1.5 hours from Paimio).
