ELEMENTS MINI BALL x Night at the Museum 21.4.2023 By Mother Coco Ninja

As the Finnish Museum of Photography opens the Your Body Changes Everything exhibition, featuring Roza Ahmad’s (Mother Coco Ninja) work about the European Ballroom scene, the museum complex Cable Factory Museums (The Finnish Museum of Photography, Theatre Museum, Hotel and Restaurant Museum) hosts the ELEMENTS MINI BALL x Night at the Museum. You can start your evening by joining the opening of the exhibition, then move on to the ball.

The competitors are invited to borrow clothing and accessories from the vast collections of the Theatre Museum. To get your hands on the most spectacular objects, register here and show up 1,5h before the doors open (see: Schedule).

Drinks will be sold at the bar of the Hotel and Restaurant Museum on the third floor of the museum complex.

POLICY

ELEMENTS MINI BALL Concept is a safe space for all. No to sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ageism, ableism, body shaming or any form of discrimination.

Yes to equality, diversity, creativity, participating, learning, new experiences and LOVE.

Ballroom scene is a safe space for LGBTQ+ community. It has started by African-American and Latin LGBTQ+ communities in New York. All visitors will respect and celebrate the Ballroom culture and its roots. If you are not from this community, please be mindful of the space you take up. Respect the performers and the space of the performers.

If you want to participate, to walk the Ball, take some time beforehand to learn what it means. If you need any help before or at the event, just ask, and we will help you.

Everybody is welcome to feel free and loved.

ACCESSIBILITY

There is a ramp (inclination approx. 9 %) that leads to the main entrance with automatic doors. The set of doors on the far right can be operated with a push button.

There is no induction loop system available in the museum.

There is an accessible lift to all the event spaces from the lobby.

An accessible toilet is located in the museum lobby. Gender-neutral toilets are available on all museum floors.

With regard to escort parking, it is possible to stop and park on Tammisaarenkatu. Taxis can stop and leave their passengers at the corner of the museum complex.

Ballroom scene is a safe space for LGBTQ+ communities. If this is your first time at a Ball, please read through the policy info above, and get to know the Ballroom culture and its history.

The Cable Museums follow safer space principles.

We do not accept harassment or discrimination in the premises of the Cable Museums. We respect each other's differences and try not to make assumptions. Indivisible human dignity belongs to everyone.

The Cable Museums are a place where you can be in doubt and ask questions. We can and are allowed to disagree with each other respectfully. Improper behavior is always addressed and not tolerated.

If you experience or notice behavior that violates these principles in our premises, report it to the safer space hosts or another member of staff at the Cable Museums.

The Finnish Museum of Photography is Finland's national specialized museum for photography. Through exhibitions, collection management, education, research, and a wide range of public and community programmes, the museum strives to promote and foster photographic art and culture in Finland. Founded on the initiative of Finnish photography organizations, the museum opened its doors in 1969 and is the oldest photography museum in Europe.
