Please join us on 28th November to celebrate CreaTures (Creative Practices for Transformational Futures) with Sussex research team Ann Light and Lara Houston and special guests, including Lucy Neal, author of the handbook on collaborative art “Playing For Time: Making Art as if the World Mattered”. We invite you to join us from 3pm into the early evening.The EU Horizon 2020 CreaTures project has spent 3 years exploring how creative practices contribute to transformed futures and, as we draw to a close, we would like to share some results, experiences and hopes – and hear your reflections. During the afternoon, there will be a chance to experience and discuss work designed to inspire new eco-social relations. CreaTures researchers and guests will offer stories of how futures can be (un)made and there will be an early evening drinks reception for everyone interested in the link between sustainable futures, creative practice and activism.The event takes place at the Sussex Humanities Lab, Silverstone Building, University of Sussex from 3pm on 28th November. The afternoon starts with CreaTures project findings and, after a break, Lucy will lead a session from 5.20, with drinks and nibbles at 6.15pm. Recognising that a major role in fostering this societal change is played by the cultural sector, CreaTures brings together diverse creative practices that aim to support eco-social change and examines their transformational processes and strategies. CreaTures UK node is run by Professor Ann Light of the University of Sussex with Dr Lara Houston. https://creatures-eu.org/About Lucy Neal and Playing for Time - Making Art As If The World MatteredLucy Neal is an artist and writer, currently engaged with Walking Forest, a 10 year artwork linking forest ecology with women and activism. She is an initiator of Transition Town Tooting, a creative collective response to the climate and ecological emergency at grass roots level looking at resilience building and practical activism. Lucy worked with 60 artists to produce Playing For Time, a definitional book exploring the role artists play in re-thinking the future; re-inventing and re-imagining our world at a time of systemic change and uncertainty. Currently out of print after 7 years, the book is an early and enduring text on shifting society’s rules and values away from consumerism and commodity towards community and collaboration. Lucy is currently investigating possibilities to relaunch the book and will be talking about her plans. She’ll be joined by a few of Playing for Time’s collaborators including the book’s editor and writer Charlotte Du Cann, who is co-director of Dark Mountain.
