About this event
Come and Sing at the Encounter Festival Finale! Hosted by Encounter Voices
We are looking for singers for an exciting project as part of the Lancashire Encounter Festival. We will be working with ground breaking musical theatre group leo&hyde on a version of their amazing Harris Museum inspired ‘Dorette: Singer, Dancer, Motion Capture’. It will be a thrilling performance outside Preston’s iconic Bus Station. We are making it a lightning project day – you can come on the day of Saturday 17th September and be involved, be prepared for a workshop rehearsal on the afternoon and to join in on the evening! We will provide material ahead of time. Suitable for all singers, particularly if you are in to musicals… The choir will be led by Musical Director Loz Kaye.
You can book on to the September 17th Come and Sing event here, it’s free.
We will keep you up to date about the event and share material.
Timetable for the day:
2 – 3 PM Rehearsal at The Guildhall, Preston, PR1 1HT. Entrance Lancaster Road.
5 – 6 PM On stage / technical rehearsal. On stage on the pedestrian area in front of Preston Bus Station.
9 PM Performance of ‘Dorette: Singer, Dancer, Motion Capture’ at Preston Bus Station. On stage on the pedestrian area in front of Preston Bus Station.
We will also be running workshops on the music across Lancashire and online ahead of time, so you can get to know it, but it’s not compulsory for taking part on the day. Individuals and groups can contact loz@lozkaye.com for more information about these workshops.
leo and hyde create modern musicals. They write pop songs and build electronic sound-worlds to tell stories about technology, modern life and future worlds. They came togther in 2017 – two northern writers (lyricist Leo Mercer and composer Stephen Hyde) with a shared desire to change the soundscape of contemporary musical theatre.
Loz Kaye is a musical director and composer with a passion for the public power of music. He is a particular specialist in community based vocal projects, and is current choir leader of Hope Mill Community Choir and Liverpool Rainbow Chorus. Previous work at Lancashire Encounter has been participatory projects “Songs of Bread, Songs of Roses”, and “Right Here, Right Now”.
