Bolt Engineering Meetup vol. 4 @ Bucharest
Date and time
Enjoy networking and get to know how we master it in engineering like in good-old pre-pandemic times. See you @ Bolt Bucharest!
About this event
Introduction
Did you know that Bolt has more than 100 million customers in 45 countries across Europe and Africa? There’s quite an interesting engineering story behind it – the one that’s also happening in our engineering hub here in Bucharest! We wanted to share our experiences with you, as well as learn from the fantastic local community, hence we’re excited to have you join Bolt Engineering Meetup vol. 4 @ Bucharest!
The aim of this series of events is to share the knowledge, experiences, and best practices within our community, and why not have a good time whilst doing so! For our first meetup in Romania, we’re going to be hearing from a couple of Bolt engineers working in our Bucharest hub – they will share their real-life case studies with us.
Join us on the 30th of May. We’re thrilled to see you there!

Our meetup will be available both in person and virtually via Zoom. Register your participation and get your e-tickets (either OFFLINE or ONLINE) through this Eventbrite platform.
Agenda
17.30 - 18:00 - Gathering & Networking
18:00 - 18:10 - Introductions & welcoming words by Horia Coman
18:10 - 18:40 - How to foresee the future (when will your food arrive) by Vlad Dascalu
Bolt Food was able to gain customer trust by offering an accurate estimated time of arrival for the current order. Attaining this accuracy is non-trivial, as it tries to predict when a set of human actors (restaurant, courier) will perform some specific tasks. By using past data, averaged biases, machine learning models and Gaussian probabilities, we were able to do it. Join this talk to learn how to reuse these approaches next time when the future needs to be predicted.
18:40 - 19:10 - Machine Learning for Maps by Andrei Ilie
When considering map problems that we encounter at Bolt, a good solution isn’t necessarily always a complex one, even when it comes to Machine Learning approaches. You will hear about how we built some of our core maps solutions, such as computing ETAs, by leveraging our data through modelling techniques.
19:10 - 19:30 - Quick break, drinks and snacks
19:30 - 20:00 - Identity verification by Radu Vasiliu
You’ll hear about the story behind building Bolt’s Identity Verification Platform. We’ll be focusing on the challenges we encountered throughout the journey and lessons learned from the first idea to the released product.
20:00 - 21:00 - Networking
