About the seminar

For the 2025 New Performance Turku Biennale, a new audience programme was developed to creatively explore ways of supporting people’s engagement with performance art and Live Art. The programme aimed to help audiences better understand these art forms and to feel more confident in discussing and sharing their experiences.

In spring 2025, a training programme was organised for a selected group of art enthusiasts, who became Audience Ambassadors for performance and Live Art. Working around self-chosen themes, the Ambassadors developed their own audience activities, received mentoring, and implemented their ideas with diverse communities in connection with the Biennale performances in September 2025.

You are warmly invited to a public seminar where the outcomes and learnings of this pilot will be shared. The event also marks the launch of a publication featuring the Audience Ambassadors’ reflections, experiences, and discoveries throughout the process.

The seminar provides an open space for dialogue with local audience development specialists, artists, researchers, and professionals from art organisations in Turku. Discussions will address challenges in audience engagement, present creative approaches tested in different local contexts, and reflect on how art producers and institutions can strengthen their capacity to reach and engage diverse publics.

The Audience Ambassadors pilot was supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
